My puppy was neutered yesterday. Is Rimadyl causing his constipation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 5 months and 18 days old | 26 lbs

Hi there, My blind/deaf puppy was neutered yesterday. He's been eating fine and on a prescription for Carprofen (Rimadyl) for pain as he has an incision on his abdomen and scrotum. Since bringing him home from the procedure, he hasn't has a bowel movement. We've been feeding him his normal meals which have never caused an issue for him. Could the RX be constipating him? Appreciate your feedback!

Yes, constipation can be a side effect of Rimadyl. I would let your vet know that you are seeing this side effect in Seymour, and you can also give him a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) mixed in with his food to see if that helps with the constipation.
