How to protect dog's neuter incision from wet pavement when scared?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 5 months and 18 days old | 26 lbs

Hi! My dog is blind and deaf and gets scared easily when we walk him outside. We got him neutered yesterday, and when we take him outside and he gets scared, he sometimes lies down. He has an incision on his abdomen (he had an undescended testicle) and another near his scrotum. Will his incisions be okay should they come into contact with wet pavement? Could we wipe them down carefully with a dog wipe after taking him out if he were to lie down?

I love that you have a deaf and blind dog! Some people may not want an animal with those disabilities, but they can be such great dogs. And this is a great question. It's not ideal that the incisions come into contact with wet pavement. The incisions should stay as dry as possible while healing. You can put a water proof bandage over them when you take him outside to protect them. I wool not wipe them down with a dog wipe, as that will make them wet again. Covering them is the best option :-)
