My bird was sprayed with Febreze. How do I safely clean its feathers?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 29 days old | 2 lbs

My bird got sprayed by my 3 year old son with febreze. I know it isn't good for the bird and he smells like the air freshener but he's eating fine and behaving normally. I want to help him get the scent out of his feathers

Bathe or shower Hunter in warm water for at least 15 minutes. You can run the shower and let him play in there (supervised) to rinse him. Monitor for lethargy, difficulty breathing or decreased appetite in the next 24-48 hours. See your vet if necessary.
