Why is my male dog swollen above his testicles and below his anus?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 13 lbs

Hello My boston terrier has a swollen area above his testicles and below his anus? Do you think this is very serious? It happened a few days ago, then it shrank again (forming just a thin stretch of skin connecting his testicles to his body like normal) but now it is swollen again. I have a photo I can send. Thanks for any advice you can give Kind regards Kirsti

Hello Kirsti. Since Cu Chulainn (the mighty hound!) is not neutered, the swelling is likely his prostate. If this swelling occurs more often, if he urinates blood, or if the swelling does not recede again, you should have that examined by your veterinarian, as he may have a prostate problem.
