Dog's bleeding toe wart: Is removal easy? Do I need a second opinion?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 11 years old

Bella has what one vet said was a bascular wart on her toe. The vet doesn't want to chop it off, even tho it opens & bleeds every once in a while. Should I get a second oppinion? & are warts usually easy to remove?

I would definitely get a second opinion for a wart that will periodically open up and bleed. Some vets just don't feel comfortable doing surgery on certain parts of the body. Also it may be that this vet can feasibly see how to remove the wart and still have enough skin for a proper closure. And to answer your second question, warts are relatively easy to remove, but in this case the toe is a highly mobile area, which can lead to loosening and opening of the stitches if precautions by the vet surgeon are not taken. Also the size of the wart can make he surgery harder because as I mentioned before there has to be enough skin left to close it properly. Since expertise plays a major role, if you do get a second opinion make sure to ask the clinic/hospital for the best and most qualified soft tissue surgeon at the facility.
