My dog chewed frangipani. Is it poisonous? Drooling and licking.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi. My dogs chewed the ends of a large branch that had fallen from out frangipani tree. Is this poisonous to them. The dogs seem ok but drooling a little and keep licking their mouth. Thank you.

The main possible toxicity effect of frangipani tree is Stomach irritation and skin rash, the licking of the mouth is probably because it's causing him to feel sick. in most cases symptoms would resolve within a few hours but if he starts to throw up and looks lethargic i would recommend taking him to the vet to get treatment.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Juliette. This is from a veterinary only peer-reviewed site- The leaves and sap of frangiopaini contain crotinic acid, lepeol, plumeric acid salts and saponins. It is a dermal irritant/vesicant and gastrointestinal irritant that has been used as a vermifuge and anitmalarial. The bark may contain a compound that has a cathartic effect. Although significant GI and dermal irritation may occur, it is unlikely to cause life-threatening problems in otherwise healthy animals. I would advise calling your local veterinarian and discuss this with them. Depending on how much was ingested, will determine how significant the clinical signs are. Good luck
