Cat scratching after Cheristin. Can I give Capstar for fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Balinese | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

I am not sure my 7 lb. cat got the full dose of Cheristin this month, and also last month (maybe 1/2 a dose each time, but not exactly sure)...the first dose (given by the vet) worked great, but the two times I've tried to administer, I don't think she got the full dose and is scratching and losing fur now. Can I give her Capstar oral tablets (nitenpyram 11.4mg) as a supplement until her next Cheristin dose is due (in two weeks)?

According to Plumb's Veterinary handbook, the only contraindications for use in Capstar is that it's not to be used in animals under two pounds of body weight or under four weeks of age. It's therefore safe to give this to your cat now :-)
