Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 4 years and 5 months old
My four year old Toy Pom has severe environmental allergies. As much as I try to avoid triggers she is always sick with sore throat, sore ears, wheezing and snoring at times not able to eat or drink. Upon visits to the vet she is given injections which are supposed to cover the allergy for 3 months. However she is never well. The next option is cortisone but she is already over weight. What do you think my options for her are? Due to lack of quality of life should she be put down?

She should be seen by a certified veterinary dermatologist. Allergy testing can be done to determine allergens. Afterwards, Uschi can begin specific allergy injections to desensitize her gradually. This can take up to a year. She can be managed in the interim with antihistamines and specialized diets. There are also non steroidal medications, such as Apoquel, that can be used.
