My puppy chewed a battery. Should I go to the vet or treat at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 14 lbs

My 11 week old puppy chewed up a battery. I found it whole and not in little pieces but i don't know if she could have swallowed little pieces. There was black powder everywhere so I looked up that it could cause ulcers in her mouth and stomach and her throat and I saw that honey could help prevent it so I gave her a small spoon of honey and some water and I also washed her mouth and all her paws. Is this severe enough that she needs to go to the vet or could I help her at home?

I would take Bella into a vet to be safe. Batteries, if punctured, can leak out toxic material that can do damage to a dogs esophagus and stomach, so it's best to have them checked out right away when they chew on one. The vet can decide the best course of treatment for her, please have her seen by a vet ASAP.
