Why did my senior pug's eyelid tumor return so soon after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 13 years and 1 month old | 20 lbs

My pug had a hemangioma eyelid tumor removed 5 days ago by surgery. He looked great but 2 days ago we noticed it looks like it's returning & as he is 13 years in age, we are very concerned about another surgery. Is this common? A returning eyelid tumor so soon after being surgically removed?

I recommend you get him rechecked by your vet as soon as possible, this may be bruising or infection in the area or indeed a recurrence of the tumor. Referral to a specialist oncologist should be considered to explore all options if the tumor is growing

Poor Harley! I would have him seen by a vet right away. This could be infection, bruising, or it could possibly be a recurrence of his tumor if large enough margins weren't taken and tumor cells still remain. You may want to consider addition therapy for the tumor, such as chemotherapy options, which you can discuss with your vet.
