Why is my dog growling while eating? Is it food aggression?

My pitbull pup growled at me and my stepdaughter when we pet him as usual when he eats his food, why would he do that he's given his food at the same times daily and he's never done that?

Some dogs do not like to be touched when they are eating, and I would refrain from petting him while he's eating. It can be a sign of food aggression, and it's best to leave him alone when he's eating.
