Why is there a firm, squishy lump on my dog's shoulder after a fight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old

My Pittie has a firm, squishy lump right where his shoulder muscle attaches to the rest of his body. He has a vet appointment, just wanted to know some likely possibilities. He is only 2. Has allergies but is otherwise healthy. He was also attacked by another dog last week. Muscle injury maybe? Fatty tumor? hoping for something benign

You are correct that this lump could be a fatty tumor, but given that he was attacked by a dog last week, it could be an abscess. Another possibility is a cyst. Given his age, it's quite unlikely Bugs has a malignant tumor. It's a good idea to have him seen by a vet :-)
