Why is my healthy dog acting erratically, running in circles, barking?

She is acting erratically and very oddly for her or any dog. Running away from and barking at nothing, she is running in circles like someone is touching her, and looking around barking at nothing.... I have never seen anything like this and I am worried and perplexed as she is young and healthy... Thank you. She is a registered service dog of my 11 year old son who has a terminal illness and Opal is very very well loved by him and the rest of our family. . Thank you.

It is possible she has a source of pain such as an anal gland abscess or spinal/joint pain causing her distress. I recommend you video the episodes and schedule a full physical exam for Opal with your vet to identify the location of the isse
