Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 8 lbs
My dog just ate a small end of a corn dog stick (about 15 minutes ago). She is a smaller dog (Maltese+Yorkie) and is showing no signs of discomfort. She "pottied" after and seemed just fine... should I be worried?

Oh that wasn't good Sadie ate that! The problem with it is that could potentially get stuck in her GI tract or cause perforation of the intestines. Given that it's a small piece of wood, hopefully it should pass ok, but I will give you some things that may help. Give her a slice of whole wheat bread now, as it will form a ball of ingesta around the stick. You can give her this slice of bread with every meal, and keep an eye on her and her feces. If you see any blood in her feces, or she has diarrhea, anorexia, vomiting, or lethargy, that means the stick could have perforated her intestines or caused an obstruction, and Sadie will need to see a vet right away. It can take up to 72 hours for this to pass.

The stick may cause some problems, but there is a chance it could pass without issue. Keep an eye on Otto for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

If you know that he has ingested this stick and now has V and D I would get him to the emergency vet asap. My fear is that this stick has got stuck in his intestine and may cause a perforation. If the stick is stuck it will need to be removed surgically. The longer you leave it the more serious the damge to the gut will become, and the more extravagant the operation will be with poorer chance if recovery. Hopefully it is not stuck but I would strongly advise you to go to the vet now, the risk is too great.
