Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered
I have a male cat who is peeing and pooping out of the litter box. He is also losing weight, although he still eats and drinks. I know he has fleas, and when I bathe him the water runs deep red. I know he's not bleeding but I know it's not normal to bathe a cat and the water run red. I'm really worried, and I haven't had the money to take him to a vet as of yet. Is there something I can do without taking him to the vet that will help his condition? I know I gotta take him sometime.

I'm sorry that Friskie isn't well! He has to see a vet as soon as possible, the red you are seeing is blood from the flea poop, and if he's suffering from a heavy flea infestation, he could also be suffering from anemia due to the blood loss. I would have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning. I will give you some resources that may help you afford a vet, or you can see if you can borrow money from family and friends. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com http://bestfriends.org/resources/financial-aid-pets
