Is it safe to give my dog Metacam and Prednisolone together?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Exotic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years and 5 months old | 14 lbs

I gave Peapumpkin her hydroxizine prescribed for her hot spot this morning . The vet called in her metacam and her prednisolone tablets tonight without orders . They are both bagged together . My mom picked them up because I'm sick and can't get out her hotspot still no better but hydrocizine made Pea seemed stoned all day acted weird and couldn't focus I won't use that again for sure it disturbed me with my baby . Now these two they always give her together can metacam be given tonight ?

If I'm understanding her medication plan correctly, I'm a bit concerned because Metacam and prednisolone should not be given together - this combination of drugs can cause serious side effects such as stomach ulcers and internal bleeding, and I do not know of any veterinarians who would recommend giving both at the same time. I would recommend calling your vet in the morning to clarify the medication instructions, because it could be very dangerous for Peapumpkin to take both of these medications at once.
