Dog disoriented, can't walk after antibiotics. Is it kidney failure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Italian Greyhound | Male | unneutered | 14 lbs

Italian Greyhound presented with cold symptoms: lethargic, sneezing, snorting. Condition didn't improve. Took to the vet. Scraped off dental plaque and prescribed antibiotics. Been taking this medication for about 2 days. Currently can't walk, stand, seems disoriented. Symptoms similar to dog that previously died of kidney failure. Please help, any thoughts?

Poor Peedad! Being unable to stand or walk and acting disoriented are definitely not normal symptoms that could be attributed to a respiratory infection, so I would be very concerned that something more serious is going on. I would recommend taking him back to the vet right away for a recheck exam. He may need blood work or other testing to help determine what is causing these symptoms and see what can be done to treat the problem.
