My husky is peeing blood and losing weight. Is it stress or illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered

My husky is 2 and a half years old and has recently started peeing in our flat. Since we have moved he's lost weight which I put down to stress of a new house but seeing the blood today has made me worry.

Poor Kato! If he has blood in his urine, this is definitely abnormal and indicates that he has a medical problem causing the urinary accidents. This could be caused by a bladder or kidney infection, bladder stones, or a prostate problem of some kind. The weight loss could also be related, especially if he has a problem with his kidneys or if he hasn't been eating as much lately due to discomfort in his bladder. I would definitely recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can do a urinalysis as well as x-rays or ultrasound of his bladder and prostate if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
