My dog licked Vaseline from dry paws. Is he sick? What's safe?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 7 months old | 72 lbs

My dogs paws are very dry/cracked from the cold and I tried to put Vaseline on them. He licked a little bit off. Is he going to get sick? Also what should I buy to put of them?

Sawyer may develop a bit of diarrhea and/or vomiting but it should resolve quickly. You can buy protective booties to use on walks or you can use a paw cream such as Musher's Secret. It is a safe cream for pets and works great. You can order it online or buy it at most pet stores.

This can cause some GI upset in Sawyer, and you may see some vomiting or diarrhea. Given that he only licked a little bit, you may not see any, but you should be aware of it. Should he have vomiting or diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. As for his dry and cracked feet, you can try Musher's Secret paw protection wax, but put an Ecollar on Sawyer when you use this to keep him from licking at it. You can buy it online or it may be available in pet stores.
