Why is my Boxer breathing hard, not eating, and drinking a lot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | unneutered | 100 lbs

I have a 6 yr old Boxer that is normally very active and has a good appetite. He loves to run and play and follows us everywhere. He has always been healthy and very muscular. The past few days he seems to be having difficulty breathing. He isn't eating but is drinking a lot of water. Is there anything that I can do for him myself?

There's nothing you can do at home. Taz should be examined by your veterinarian. The symptoms have many causes, but being a Boxer exhibiting breathing difficulties, a cardiac workup would be recommended. Lab work (cbc, chemistry panel, thyroid panel, urinalysis) can assess major organ function especially kidney function.
