My puppy has diarrhea with blood. What should I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 6 month old chocolate lab. He started having diarrhoea yesterday and it's continued today. He's fine otherwise, still wants to play. Maybe a little bit quieter and clingy than usual. Also I just noticed a little bit of blood in his last accident, that's the first I've seen if it. What should I do?

He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If the diarrhea does not resolve, if the blood increases or if he tops eating, take him to the vet to get treatment as it might be a serious infection.
