My old cat has a scabby lump. Can it be removed without anesthesia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Colorpoint Shorthair | Female | spayed | 18 years and 8 months old | 8 lbs

I have an 18 year old cat with a scabby/ hairless lump that has grown quickly on her hind leg. Is this something that can be removed without putting the cat under, it has grown very large recently. A scabby patch peeled off today and it looked like a grayish pus.

Unfortunately no, any lump removal does require being put under, whether is general anesthesia or sedation. Lump removal can be done in senior cats, and I recommend having a geriatric blood panel done on Pursie prior to deciding to remove the lump. That will tell the vet how her organ's are functioning, and can give an idea of the anesthetic risk of putting her under.
