My female dog has a growing lump on her anus. What could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 44 lbs

My female pet dog has a lump on her anus. I noticed it yesterday when it was a small lump but today it has got increasingly bigger. It is located at between 9 to 11 o'clock on her anus. It has also somewhat made the left side of her bottom larger than the right side.

It sounds like her anal gland is impacted, possibly blocked, you will have to take her to the vet to get it emptied. in most cases it's just a matter of squeezing it hard enough but if it is completely blocked it might require a procedure under sedation.
