My cat licked Neosporin and is drooling. Is the medicine toxic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat must have licked off some Neosporin ointment from his wound n now has drooling. I had applied only a small quantity about 2gms and only once...the symptoms developed after 24hrs and persist till now. It's been more than 3 days that he has been drooling. Is there anything that I can do to stop his drooling and something to flush the medicine from his system. He has a good appetite n is regularly drinking water too.

If he isn't constantly licking the cream, it's not likely to be why he is drooling, he is probably drooling because of a teeth problem or because of nausea. you need to take him to the vet in order to get it checked.

Yes, it can cause side effects such as nausea, which would cause the drooling. I would not recommend using it on your cat unless you have an Ecollar to put on him to keep him from licking the Neosporin. Oral antibiotics are better to treat an infected wound, which you can get from your vet by prescription.
