Why is my neutered male dog bleeding from his penis but acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

My male pitbull/boxer is app 1 year old and neutered. He has not had issues like this previously. I noticed tonight he was bleeding. I thought it was my female as she is in heat but while they were outside I saw it coming from him. He's not been acting strange or acting hurt. I'm very worried but it's late and all vets are closed

I can understand being concerned about Ruger! He could have sustained trauma to his penis, or he could be suffering from a UTI or bladder stones. As long he's not bleeding heavily and is acting normally, you can bring him into the vet in the morning. The vet can diagnose the cause of the bleeding so Ruger can be treated.

This is very concerning, this bleeding can be a sign of a UTI, bladder stones, leptospirosis, or getting into something toxic. If you can't take him into the vet, call the local SPCA to come and get him so he can get veterinary help.
