Is it necessary to leash my new puppy for every outdoor potty break?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

Hello there! We have just adopted a 10 week old puppy and I'm slightly overwhelmed. My current biggest concern is regarding going outside with her. Until now she has been fostered in a home where she was able to go out off leash a lot, no problem, and is doing really well walking off leash and staying close to people. However her new home is in a suburb with more dangers and I just had to chase her to get her back in for the first time. Should I leash her for every pee break from now on?

Hi and thanks for your question. Maggie is quite young to be trusted off leash just yet. I would definitely recommend keeping her on the leash to go potty until she is fully trained and into her adult years. Most pets aren't fully trained until they are closer to 12 months of age. You also will ensure that she is mature enough to handle being off leash. It is best to be safe than sorry.
