Why is my 13-year-old Jack Russell shaking and yelping in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Russell Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 15 lbs

I have a 13 year old jack Russell terrier and he is shaking and is in pain. Yelps when he moves and when you try to pick him up. He has had no other health conditions except a corn allergy.

Please get Spike assessed by a vet as soon as possibelt o investigate and treat the source of the pain. Spinal/disk disease, injury and infections such as tooth abscesses would all be frequent causes of extreme pain in older dogs and the sooner treated the best chance of them making a full recovery

This is a quite generic but concerning sign. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. I would strongly suggest a check up to determine specifically what is causing the signs you described and give appropriate treatment.
