My dog has a bald spot on her tail. Is it from a past flea problem?

I just got trooper on December 30th. She has this bald spot on her tail, and she had fleas when I got her. I got rid of the fleas. Could this bald spot just be from fleas?

Congrats on your new dog! Yes, the bald spot on Trooper could be due to fleas, as she would bite at the area due to itching. It will take about a month or so for the fur to grow back in. Should it not how any signs of fur growth in that time, I would recommend having her checked out by a vet.

This could be from an injury or it could be something like a skin infection or mange. Keep an eye on the spot, and if it gets bigger or the fur doesn't start to grow back, I'd have Tink seen by a vet. Best of luck.

There are many different reasons for bald spots, but considering your recent battle with fleas, there's a good chance it was due to that. The hair coat can sometimes look worse before it gets better, since the old damaged hair is falling out and the new hair is growing in. If the skin in the bald spot is not red or crusty, then it's likely healthy skin. You may also look closely to see if new hair is growing in - that's a good sign that all is well. If the skin is looking red and/or crusty, then it may be an infection. These can be caused by bacteria, fungus or mites. A veterinarian will be able to diagnose the cause through an exam and certain tests. I hope this helps and Sam gets his hair back soon.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Possible causes for hair loss on the tail are: fleas, demodex mites, ring worm or a bacterial skin infection. I would have him on Nexgard to cover for fleas and demodex. You can try a medicated shampoo, bathe 2 times per week and leave the lather on the area for 10 mins before rinsing. If there is no regrowth or improvement in 2 weeks I would have your Vet examine the area. There is a scent gland on the tail and hair loss can occur at that location but I usually see that in older dogs. Also you can always post a picture here. Hi, My dog has recently pulled out a chunk of her fur on her tail. She was itching it and now there is a small bald spot. What might have caused this? Also, what can I do to stop her from making it worse?
A flea bite could've caused itching and caused this, trauma from rubbing against the fence or something like that or even a bacterial infection could've caused this. This area looks pretty red and inflamed and is likely to become infected from her chewing or licking at the site. I recommend keeping it clean and dry and preventing her from lickingor chewing at the site any further. If it does not clear up within one or two days I would have your veterinarian do an exam. If Bella is not already on a strict flea control protocol I would discuss what options your veterinarian offers.

That lesion on Lily could be several things including fleas, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection, ringworm (which humans can get) or endocrine disease. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day (not her whole body, just the lesion). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesion is not improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello. Please do not freak out, this just looks like a small area of irritation, a bit of dermatitis. I would just clean the area gently with an over the counter skin antiseptic like Hibiclens twice a day. A bald spot could be caused by allergies, skin infection, mites, ringworm, etc. You could bath him with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. If not, have your vet examine him to determine the cause. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications to help treat the problem. You could also add Free Form Snip Tips to his diet and see if that helps to keep his skin and coat healthy.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. The hair is expected to grow back when the allergies and infections resolve. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that d

It could have been from an allergy that caused Buddy to chew the hair off of the tail. This could also be due to a skin infection, skin parasite or hormonal disease causing the hair loss. This could very well be caused by a flea infestation, and possibly an allergy to flea bites. You will need to do the following: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment: 1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.
