My dog has fatty lumps on his stomach area. Are there any home remedies that will help?

The only way to treat lipomas (fatty lumps) is to have them surgically removed. There is no treatment that will make them go away. The best time to have them removed is when your dog is under anesthesia for something like a dental cleaning, unless they are growing rapidly and/or interfering with movement.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Unfortunately there are no medications or alternatives to get rid of lipomas. If Tina is overweight at all, getting her to lose weight may help reduce the occurrence of these and some may reduce in size. If she is not overweight, then surgery really is the only option. Lipomas do not need to be removed though. These are typically benign in most cases and rarely become cancerous. I would just keep an eye on them for now and then discuss removal with your vet should that ever need to happen. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Lipomas can unfortunately get this big; and if they don't grow, become more firm or attached, or hinder the mobility of the pet removal may not be recommended. Typically most lipomas can be diagnosed with the test your family performed, a needle aspiration. But, sometimes I do see patients that develop a secondary tumor type within the lipoma. So it is important to periodically palpate the mass to make sure it's not changing in texture, firmness, or causing any discomfort to the pet. An xray of the area is also helpful to assess whether the mass is purely a fat density or if it may contain different tissue density that is more concerning. There are also some tumors that can masquerade as lipomas and may not be readily diagnosed with the needle cytology. If there is a suspicion of this scenario then some pets undergo a small biopsy. Unfortunately the only way to fully remove a lipoma is with surgery, although this can typically be more of a conserative surgery as these masses are benign

Typically these fatty lumps (lipomas) require no treatment unless they are very big, affect the way a dog moves, and/or bothers the dog. If these scenarios do not apply to Oso, you don't need to do anything.

You are correct these lumps could be lipomas (benign fatty tumors), but they could also be cysts, benign tumors, or malignant tumors. In senior dogs, cancer is always a possibility, and I would recommend having Mickey seen by a vet to have the lumps diagnosed. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would take him into the vet in the next couple of days to have the lumps diagnosed and treated if needed (lipomas typically need no treatment).

No, surgery is the only way to remove Jack's lipoma. If your vet has already aspirated the mass to examine the cells under the microscope and finds that it has not been growing dramatically, monitoring at home can be quite reasonable for many lipomas. If the lipoma begins growing quickly, bleeds, or seems to limit Jack's movement, surgery would likely be beneficial.

Fatty lumps (lipomas) can grow up to considerable size without causing any problem, but in rare cases can turn into malignant masses (liposarcomas). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential torule out this clinical suspicion. Another sampling may be needed. Hi I noticed this lump on my dogs belly this morning and I would like to know if it is anything serious. I haven’t noticed any change in her behaviour though she is still playing and jumping around as normal. Thanks.
It could be a lipoma (benign fatty tumor), but it is difficult to determine by just looking at an image. Ideally, Molly should be seen by your veterinarian. A fine needle aspirate can be done to collect samples for pathology. Treatment options can be discussed once results are returned. The other option would be to simply monitor it at home. Watch for rapid change or growth, pain associated with the mass or restriction of movement. Use an e-collar (cone) if she is licking at it. Whether it turns out to be benign or not, removal while still relatively small is recommended.

I am assuming that your vet did a needle aspirate and wasn't able to get a diagnosis. The only way to know the cause of the lumps would be to remove them and submit to a lab for biopsy. As long as he is otherwise healthy then the risk of anesthesia is low. If he needs a dental cleaning then your vet could do both at the same time. If you don't want to have them removed then you could monitor for a month or so and see how the lumps change. If they are growing then they really should be removed.

an open and infected tumor should be removed. If it happens to be a lipoma (fatty lump) then this should be curative. If it happens to be another type of tumor, then your vet should do an x-ray of the lungs to check whether there are metastases. I think you should get a second opinion from another veterinarian or a veterinary oncologist.

Unfortunately, there is not a medication to cure any type of skin tumor or cancer. The only cause of a swelling on the skin that can be cured by medication is an infection. Most skin lumps and bumps are not infectious in nature. Pets can get many types of lumps and bumps. Most of these tumors will be benign but some will be malignant and you can't tell by looks.
