How to help a stray cat with painful gingivitis without a vet?

There is a stray cat that has very bad gingivitis and screams and runs after trying to eat a morsel of food so we feed him soft food but I would like to know if there is a water additive to help heal the mouth we can't afford to take him to the vet we took him once and they gave him a antibiotic injection what can we do Thanks. Please contact your local humane society to try and identify a shelter or foster hone to get him the help he requires. It is likely he has loose, broken or infected teeth that require extraction in order to control the pain
