My parakeet's beak has an odd texture. What should I do about it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 0 lbs

I've noticed recently that one of my parakeets has an odd texture to his beak. My other parakeet looks fine. The one I'm concerned about seems to be acting normal but these are my first birds so I'm not sure what I should do, if anything.

Your parakeet could be suffering from a mite infection caused by the bird mite cnemidocoptes, The infection would show up the beak as well as the legs. You should have your bird seen by a veterinarian who can easily diagnose a mite infection and then treat it with ivermectin, You should bring both birds, as both need to be treated.
