Golden retriever has eye issues. Can I fix them at home or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 27 days old

I think that my Male golden retriever might have horners syndrome. I could take him to the vet but I don’t want to go for them just to tell me he’s fine. Is there anything I could do at home?

Horner's syndrome is a collection of symptoms that result from problems with nerves responsible for the movement of the eyelids and the pupil. Horner's syndrome in a puppy would be extremely rare. It is difficult to tell from the picture if one or both eyes are affected, and I cannot see much of the eyes or pupils. If you came to this diagnosis because he is holding one eye closed, there are some things that are more likely, such as a corneal ulcer or conjunctivitis. I always recommend taking eye problems seriously, as they can become rapidly worse. So I do think a trip to your veterinarian is warranted.
