My dog has a dry cough. Could it be kennel cough? Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 85 lbs

I have an almost 3 year old black lab who has developed a cough. It started last night and has continued today. It's mostly a dry hacking cough but occasionally sounds like he's producing some phlegm. His appetite and behavior seem normal and he seems to feel fine otherwise. We are watching someone else's dog who was coughing for a few days and now seems to be fine, so I'm wondering if my dog sought kennel cough from him, and if I need to bring him to a vet.

Yes, he may have contracted kennel cough. If he has been vaccinated he should only get a mild infection. If he stops eating and becomes very lethargic then I would take him in. Otherwise just keep him quiet, give plenty of fluids and be patient. It may take up to two weeks for him to get better.
