What's a cat's life like after entropion surgery? Will she go blind?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 6 months and 19 days old

Hello, My cat has entropion and although I know surgery will be necessary, I don't know after surgery how her life will be? Will she need eye drops/cream for the rest of her life? Will she eventually go blind or lose her sight??? Is the surgery 'full proof', meaning she won't have any other issues down the road with her eyes? I am very worries. Thank you.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He great news is that entropion surgery is usually uncomplicated and very effective for long-term. It is essentially just removing a small piece of the eyelid. Right after she will need an E-collar and some eye ointment but she shouldn’t need long-term eye care if all goes well and the eyes are otherwise healthy. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Rune!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This surgery is generally well tolerated but he will have to wear a cone around his neck for at least 14-21 days so that he does not scratch out the stitches. The longer you delay the surgical correction of the procedure, the more risk you run of the entropion causing trauma to the surface of the eye from the eyelid hairs scraping against the cornea. I would recommend having it done sooner rather than later so that you can prevent this from happening. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
