My budgie is breathing fast and squeaking. Should I see a vet?

Good morning I have female budgie with quite rapid respiration n squeak.no discharge.S/B vet ?Xray /nebulizer Rx diagnosis unsure.should i observe then decide or act now please

I would recommend taking your bird to the vet as soon as you are able. Respiratory disease can be very serious, especially in small birds. If you have the capability to nebulize at home it could be helpful until you can get her seen. You veterinarian may recommend performing X-rays to help determine what is going on. I hope this helps. Anytime a small bird like a budgie has abnormal breathing sounds I recommend they get checked out ASAP. This is because respiratory diseases can become very serious, very quickly so early diagnosis and treatment is important. Your veterinarian may need to do tests but in some cases an exam and antibiotics are what is needed.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Respiratory distress in a bird is an emergency situation. I recommend taking her to an avian veterinarian asap. Keep her in s a warm, draft free, area and limit stress and handling as much as possible until you get her to see the vet. If you do not know of an avian veterinarian, www.aav.org may help you find someone in your area.

I bought an 8 week old budgie today and she is quite often breathing heavily, even after my other has calmed down, I don't know whether it's something to be concerned about or whether she's just a bit scared?

My parakeet is breathing heavily and whipping his tail. He is also making a squeaking sound every time he breathes. The three other birds are acting normal, and he's isolated on a branch.
This is a very serious problem in a bird and indicates illness. What you are describing sounds most like an upper repiratory infection or illness. Your bird needs to see a vet right away. Birds are good at hiding illness and are often sicker then you think. Using a small cage or small aquarium (lined in paper towel and have a screen lid) with a heating pad on low underneath, can help your bird out until you get to a vet.

Hello. I am sorry that Bobo isn't feeling well. It does sound like Bobo is very very sick. I would recommend having him to a vet right away. Birds do not show they are sick unless they are severely compromised, and a parakeet sitting on the bottom of a cage breathing hard could be near death. It also sounds like Bobo might be suffering. If you can get him to a vet right away I would suggest this. Best of luck with Bobo.

Hello, I would recommend taking your bird to a veterinarian when possible. This sounds like it could be an upper respiratory infection, which is common in pet birds. I am sorry that your Budgie is ill. The squeaking noises can be a sign or a respiratory infection, mouth infection or even a seed in the windpipe. This is something that needs to be seen by the vet right away! I would keep the bird quiet and unstressed until they see a vet- minimize handling.

This bird needs to see a vet ASAP! I would call PetCo as they will either have an in house vet or know where to refer you. As it has been only a week, it’s possible they may help with the bill or take the bird back. If you have a smaller cage, or even better, an aquarium, I would put the sick bird in there with a lamp nearby for warmth or a heating pad on low under half the cage to provide extra heat. Offer favorite foods in a small bowl near the bird. Put a towel on the bottom and remove perches.

Sneezing and wheezing are definitely cause for concern in birds, as they normally breathe through their nose (nares). It can be caused by bacterial and viral infections. It is important to have your bird seen by the vet to determine what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment soon, as the condition can spread to the air sacs and lungs if untreated.

My birds nose whistles when he breathes and he constantly sneezes and he breathes deeper than normal, and after excersize he seems to have trouble breathing. I don’t have a vet where I live, what can I do to help him?
Hi there! It sounds like Troy might be dealing with an upper respiratory infection with his sneezing, deeper breathing, and inability to cope with exercise well. Unfortunately, this would require antibiotics to treat. I would recommend calling and finding a veterinarian that treats birds. They will likely recommend an x-ray to ensure that the infection has not progressed to a severe pneumonia before treating. In the meantime, warm and humid air is easier to breathe when the respiratory tract is inflamed. You can turn on a warm shower and bring him into the bathroom for 5-10 minutes at a time. Closely watch his eating, drinking, and elimination habits during this time as well, as sick birds may also stop eating and become dehydrated. I hope this helps! Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
