Why is my young cat not eating or moving after a fever shot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 13 lbs

my year old cat has been back and forth with a fever. he was given one shot before last weekend and it came back slowly throughout, plus another today. first was meant to last two days, this one ten. after his first dose before last weekend he was improving right away. now, after today's visit, he still hasn't left his cage and it's been all day. is it because this shot was stronger than the last? he won't eat or drink either. i'll be calling in the morning but i'm just worried now

I am very concerned about your cat. Did your veterinarian give you a reason for the fever? Also do you know what the shot was? My concern is with a younger cat and a fever that there is always the possibility of a cat with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritionitis). There is no real test for this and is more a diagnosis of exclusion. I would discuss this with your veterinarian tomorrow to see if with what is going on with your cat this may be a possibility. It sounds like if this were the case he could have the dry form. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2134&aid=212 Thank you for using PetCoach.
