My dog ate part of my shoe. Should I see a vet or just monitor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Wire Fox Terrier | Male | neutered | 13 years and 1 month old | 17 lbs

My 18 lb dog ate part of my shoe. He's eaten a lot of inedible things and they've always come out. Just wondering if I should take him in or does this look pretty minor?

So sorry for your shoes! It really depends how large the pieces were when they went down. If he tore it into pieces, which I would expect, then it may cause a GI upset but unlikely to cause an obstruction. The best thing to do is monitor him for any vomiting or diarrhea as this can be signs if a problem. There is no need to take him anywhere right now
