Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | neutered | 12.13 lbs

Hello. My cat has hook worms. Vet prescribed Drontal but its not available here so someone told me about an alternative. Its a syrup and 5ml of it contains 40 mg of levamisole. My cat is a Persian male (castrated), 10 months old and weighs 5.5kg. Can you please assist how much dose should be given to him and when to give the next dose. Please assist. Regards, Ali (From Pakistan)

Your cat is beautiful! Albendazole and mebendazole will also kill hook worms. Levamisole has demonstrated activity against hook worms, however a dose regimen has not been established. Can you ring your veterinarian again to ask him to prescribe a different wormer for your cat? Maybe he knows an effective dosage for Levamisole against hookworms in cats. We do not have such a dosage recommendation here as we do not use Levamisole for cats principally because of the narrow therapeutic index.
