SE MN? What could be causing a myriad of skin issues? No issues in TX but intermittent here. Cultures/scrapings negative so vet wouldn't prescribe anything. Newest is even after food change. Coppers Pattern is: small ”wound” appears, occasional loss of hair, goes red, scabs, skin greyish, small lumps (labeled clogged pores). Itchy, smells strange, all dogs have developed at least skin tags and/or abnormalities. Leo just developed a sensitive golfball size lump on leg. At a loss! Abrv due tospace

Copper most likely has allergic dermatitis. This can be due to inhaled (pollen), food, or contact (flea, grass) allergins. I typically give my patients an anti-inflammatory injection and/or antihistamines to make them less itchy. Antibiotics are usually necessary to get rid of the scabs and stinky skin. It usually takes 2-4 wks of antibiotic therapy to clear the skin infection (usually staph dermatitis secondary to allergies/itching). It is also a good idea to give your dogs with an oral flea/tick preventative. Copper will continue to itch until her skin is treated with antibiotics and cleared of scabs. If this becomes a chronic condition, there are several different medications she can be prescribed to help prevent her from itching and then getting a secondary staph infection. Leo's mass is not likely due to allergies. Your veterinarian could do a fine needle aspirate of the mass to rule out a lipoma (fatty benign tumor) versus other types of growths. If the mass is painful and bothering him, your veterinarian can remove the mass and send it off for histopathology if it looks suspicious./cancerous. You may want to get a second opinion from a different veterinarian about Copper's skin condition. Leo should see a vet in the near future about his growth. I hope this has helped. Thank you for using pet coach.
