My dog's on prednisone. Why is he suddenly so hungry and destructive?

Hello, a few weeks ago my dog was feeling super itchy so I took him to the vet and was prescribed prednisone for about 2-3 weeks. He finished his last dose yesterday. However I have noticed that since he began taking the medication my dog has started raiding the trash and counter surfing while I'm at work, things I've only see him do on the very very rare occasion. I'm really confused and wondering what I should do

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to increased appetite which is a very common side effect observed with prednisone. I highly recommend that you let your veterinarian know so that his prednisone dose is perhaps modified. Good luck and have a great day!
