My cat has diarrhea and isn't eating. What can I do to help him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs

My cat has never had diarrhea, but 2 days ago he did, and today he had a second one. He is in good spirits, but he is eating very, very little. Is there anything I can do to help him?

Make sure he is getting plenty of fluids. I would syringe him water and feed him wet food to get more moisture in him. I would feed a diet of chicken and rice and add in a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or he worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

So sorry about your cat. You could call some local rescues or shelters in your area and see if anyone can help your cat get some veterinary care. That is very nice that you rescued him from an abused home and I hope you can find someone to help, especially if he has a broken leg or rib. For the diarrhea, you could buy a broad spectrum dewormer at a pet store and see if that helps. If he has parasites, it might help the diarrhea but it sounds like he really needs to see a vet. Hope you find some help!
