Will stenotic nares surgery on my growing dog need to be redone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 32 lbs

I believe my dog may need the stenotic nares surgery, should I wait until he is older? Since he is still growing will his nostrils close again if done to soon?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your question. Having the stenotic nare surgery done now will have no adverse effects on Ruger. The nostrils will not close again once corrected if done right and his breathing should improve through his nose. I would discuss the surgery with your veterinarian. I have done the procedure several times in dogs younger than Ruger and they all did fantastic with the procedure. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
