My 6-month-old kitten is throwing up undigested food. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 months and 12 days old | 10.4 lbs

My 6 month old American short hair kitty just vomited approximately 4 to 5 pz. of undigested hard Isms and meaty bits with gravy. This ammount would account for meals from 6 am to 7 pm today the 27th. He is very solemn. His nose is whitish pink but cool and he is sitting by his filtered water fountain drinking and cleaning himself.

I am sorry to hear that Scooter isn’t feeling well. When young cats vomit I do get concerned about the possibility of an intestinal foreign body. If he isn’t feeling well then I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. An x-ray will likely be recommended to look for any signs of an obstruction. Anti nausea medication may also make him feel better. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
