My puppy ate something sticky/chewy. What should I do or look for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old

My 11 month old puppy ate something about an hour ago. I could not figure out what it was but it seemed like it was sticky or chewy. She has had water since with no trouble and seems like her normal self. I know she did not eat gum, there is no gum in the house but is there anything I should do or look for?

Watch for vomiting, retching, diarrhea, lethargy and any other signs that could indicate that your puppy is not feeling well. If any of this occurs, then you need to take her to a vet as she could have a blocked intestine. Since she only ingested this an hour ago there is a possibility that you can have a vet make her regurgitate what she ate, if you are very worried. Look around the floor where she picked this up whether there is more of the substance.
