My dog's eye is weeping. Should I use Petco drops or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed | 9 lbs

My dog's eye started weeping, she is wiping it with her arm. my other 2 dogs are smelling it. Do you think Vetricyn (not sure spelled right) eye drops that is sold at Petco would work or should I go to my vet?

Hello. It is always best to have your veterinarian examine any eye problem as soon as it is noticed. This can be an infection, irritation, or even the start of an autoimmune condition called Keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It may even be allergy driven. With the right treatment, the eyes can heal very quickly. The wrong or no treatment can let a simple problem blow up into a big one. So while I do use the Vetericyn ophthalmic products in certain conditions, if you have the means to have Sipsey actually examined, this would be the very best course of action. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
