How often should my 6-week-old puppy go potty, and should I wake him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 1 month and 11 days old

How many times should I be taking a 6 week old puppy out to do his buisness? I read that they can hold it for up to 2 hours so I plan on setting an alarm for every 1 and a half hours to take him out. If he's asleep, should I wake him to go do his buisness?

If he is asleep, let him sleep but take him out immediately after he wakes up to go. He should also go out with in 30 minutes of eating and drinking. If you notice him stop playing and start circling, then this is an indication he is about to go. Your time frame is good for waking hours, but through the night, you may have to let him out once until he gets a little bigger to hold it through the night.
