Is my rescue cat's sunken eye socket normal years after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | 9 lbs

My rescue cat had her eye removed before we adopted her. It's been three years since but it seems like her eye lid has sunken more into the socket recently. Should I worry about it reopening or leave it be since she's not showing any signs of discomfort?

From the pictures, Lumen's eye socket area looks quite normal. It is possible that the muscles that would normally raise and lower the eyelid have atrophied, or weakened and gotten smaller, over time since they are not being used. It would be extremely unlikely for this incision to reopen 3 years after surgery since it has healed so well. I hope that all continues to go well for Lumen!
