My dog has scabs and rash on stomach. Is it serious? Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 115 lbs

My dog has a weird rash/spots that look like they scabbed up. They’re on his stomach area around his wiener. I’m not exactly sure how long he’s had them I just noticed them yesterday. I was wondering what they are?? If it’s serious and I need to take him to the vet? I bathed him yesterday and I was going to see if they’ll go away but if they don’t by Wednesday or if you think it’s serious I’ll take him to the vet?

Thank you for posting the pictures of Cabot, it is really helpful. Those lesions look suspicious for a bacterial infection, pyoderma. However, other possible causes would be fungal infection or immune mediated issues. I do think it would be a good idea to have him seen by your veterinarian in the next few days, but unless it starts looking a lot worse or he starts acting sick then I don’t think it is an emergency. They may recommend oral antibiotics and/ or medicated shampoo. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
