My dog cried out, had stomach pain, arched back, then recovered. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

My 3 yr old female ten pound bichon had sudden onset what I assume was gastro in nature. She would arch her back & just couldn’t settle and paced. I let her out and she ate grass and had wrenching noises like she was going to be sick but was not. She’d come back in and had 3 moments where she cried out as if someone had suddenly stuck her with a needle. We f d her boiled chicken n white rice and within hours she’s playing with her squeaky ball and we went on our long walk she p’d n pooped fine

Molly symptoms are suggestive of gastrointestinal discomfort and/or inflammation of the pancreas. Sounds like she is doing better. I would advise you to keep her on a bland diet of chicken and rice for the next three days and discontinue treats and/or table scraps. If symptoms persist, follow up with her veterinarian to discuss diet and diagnostics including bloodwork and an abdominal ultrasound.
