My cat swallowed thread, vomited, and passed some. Is he okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Norwegian Forest Cat | Male | neutered | 6 years old | 19 lbs

My cat swallowed a polyester sewing thread a week ago and my father pulled out some of it from his mouth. After that he started vomiting and we went to a vet. She said it is a infection and did not do anything about the thread. So we followed infection treatment. He wasn’t eating or drinkimg for the first two days but after that he started eating. Yesterday he pooped some of the thread and I saw the thread under his tongue and I cut it. He is drinking, eating, he seems fine.

Thread can cause something we call a linear foreign body which can be very serious. I am attaching a handout with more information about that below. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=3541 If Tursu does not seem to be feeling well, stops eating or has any more vomiting, it is a medical emergency and he needs to see your vet right away because he may need surgery. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Tursu is fine. Thanks for using PetCoach.
